I am a university qualified Associate Nutritionist (BSc ANutr.) and a former Secondary School Teacher and Dancer - currently working as a Nutritionist, Research Assistant, and continuing my studies with a Master of Nutrition and Dietetics. I believe in a non-diet approach to nutrition and the importance of having a healthy relationship with food.
My previous career path led me to where I am today, and although I still have a desire to work in the entertainment industry as a nutrition and science communicator – I developed a very unhealthy relationship with food when working as a Dancer and Performer due to both internal and external pressures. I was often surrounded by very negative food, body and diet-related messages as well as a great deal of pseudoscience and so-called “quick fixes”. Working as a Dance and Drama teacher also helped highlight the importance of reaching the younger generation with positive food and body messages.
These experiences combined led me to study a Bachelor of Science (Nutrition and Food Science) and now a Master of Nutrition and Dietetics. I also hope to continue my studies and pursue a career in Research, with my main interests including the role of diet and nutrition in mental health including depression and anxiety, as well as disordered eating and the importance of having a healthy relationship with food. I am also interested in exploring how technology, the internet and social media may influence these conditions.
Currently, you’ll find me on social media fighting nutrition BS, and in the near future – in academia, writing about the role of nutrition and mental health.
A generous portion of nutrition knowledge, tasty recipe ideas and some hilarious myth-busting
